Four Killed in Fire at Hong Kong Housing Estate

(MENAFN) At least four people, including a firefighter, were killed and three others injured in Hong Kong on Wednesday after a massive fire erupted at a housing estate.

According to the fire department, cited by media, two of the injured are in critical condition, while the third is stable.

The blaze rapidly spread along bamboo scaffolding, engulfing at least three blocks of the estate in the Tai Po neighborhood during the afternoon, reported media.

The estate, known as Wang Fuk Court, comprises eight blocks and more than 1,900 flats.

Earlier, the fire department elevated the fire alarm to its second-highest level, No. 4.

Reports indicate several residents remain trapped inside.

Videos and photos shared on social media captured thick smoke rising into the sky as flames consumed parts of the building and firefighters battled to control the inferno.

Rescue operations are ongoing.
